ATX Free Fridge Project: Brentwood Edition
At Brentwood Social House, we believe in fostering connection, compassion, and community. That’s why we’ve partnered with the ATX Free Fridge Project to provide a community fridge at our location. This fridge is a resource for anyone in need of fresh food, promoting unity while helping to reduce food waste. Solidarity, not charity.
Brentwood Social House is the host, but we do not stock the fridge. This is a community-supported effort—food and pantry items are donated by generous neighbors like you.
Why is This Important?
The ATX Free Fridge Project is more than just a fridge – it’s a lifeline. By offering free, fresh food to those who need it most, we’re helping to ensure that folks in our neighborhood are fed. Additionally, we’re reducing food waste and creating a sense of shared responsibility and care within our community. Your support, whether through donations or volunteer efforts, can make a significant impact in the lives of our neighbors.
What Can I Donate?
We accept a wide variety of food and non-food items to ensure that the fridge remains well-stocked and accessible to everyone in need. Here’s what you can donate:
Fresh produce (including fruits and vegetables from your home garden)
Prepared meals, individually portioned, labeled with common allergens (gluten-free, vegan, etc.), and the date they were made
Baked goods, individually wrapped
Canned goods and non-perishable items
Snacks like string cheese, granola bars, nuts, applesauce, crackers, water, and more
Non-food items such as pet supplies, hygiene products, diapers, menstruation products, and baby food/formula
We DO NOT Accept:
Opened food
Expired food
Raw meat
Alcohol or drugs
Community Guidelines
To maintain the safety and integrity of the Free Fridge, we ask all participants to follow a few simple guidelines:
The fridge is available 24/7 to receive donations.
Please only touch what you’re going to take.
Place perishables in the fridge and non-perishables in the pantry.
If you’re donating prepared meals or baked goods:
Wear a mask and gloves while preparing food.
Use clean, sturdy containers that seal properly.
Label each item with:
Name of the dish
Ingredients and allergens
The date it was made
Get Involved – Adopt a Week!
You’ve helped us make our Community Fridge & Pantry a critical resource for neighbors in need. Now, we’re making it even easier for you to support this effort. We’ve launched a new “Adopt a Week” sign-up process, where you can choose a week that fits your schedule and commit to giving a little time and a few donated items.
If you sign up, your responsibilities are simple: tidy up the fridge and pantry at least once during your chosen week and contribute whatever you’re able—fresh produce, non-perishables, or even a few basics like rice and canned goods. Every bit makes a difference. It’s a flexible, meaningful way to keep our community nourished and connected.
Calling All Local Businesses! Want your business to sponsor a week? We’d be happy to include a shoutout to your organization in our weekly email. Simply sign up to adopt a week, then email info@brentwoodsocial.com with your chosen week, your logo, and a short blurb about your business. It’s a wonderful way to support our neighbors while sharing your mission and values.
